Sparks and Monsters: Girl Genius Graphic Novel and Kickstarter Extras

Created by Studio Foglio

Oh no, the Brassy Fobs are once again backordered. Probably for about 30 days, so we're looking at late April. Silvery fobs are still in stock. Shipping to Australia is commencing! We're creeping up on our next Kickstarter campaign! Hooray!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

A Big Monthly (June) Update: First of Its Kind!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 01, 2021 at 12:14:32 AM

Hello again--

I get anxious and don’t like to post until I have something new to say, but our assistant Chris who helps us with our mail has pointed out that a monthly update whether or not I have anything new to say would be quite a good idea, so here I am with what I hope will be the first of many fine updates for your amusement! (Thank you, Chris. You are a very smart man.)

About 76% of you have completed the BackerKit pledge manager, and for that we thank you. The medals are on their way here from the factory and we’re working to finish up things like signing all the bookplates and assembling the Envelopes of Madness. We hope to begin shipping fairly quickly.

There are a few of you whose emails are, according to BackerKit, not working. We’ll be reaching out to you individually to try to get your pledge manager link to you. If you think you might be one of those folks, or if you know your email has changed since the campaign, please contact us with a new address and we’ll get that link right out to you!

I’m getting close to opening the BackerKit store to the public to give everybody one last shot at the rewards. Backers of the actual campaign still get their perks, though. Backers have a discount on additional campaign medals, patches and Envelopes of Madness. Also, this time, we’re really low on the hardcover edition, which came as a bit of a surprise. So, I’ve currently set up the BackerKit store so that only actual backers from the campaign can order extras. I may change that later if it looks like all the backers have had their chance, but until then, you all get first dibs. Don’t worry, I’ve saved a bunch to account for lost and damaged shipments as well.

What else? Hmm…

Phil has sold his novel The Night Sherriff to Prince of Cats publishing, we’re very excited about that. I’m not sure about the release date, though. Don't worry, when it's out we won't shut up about it.

Rain Games just released some of the music they’ve been tinkering with for the Girl Genius Adventures in Castle Heterodyne video game, and in my opinion, it’s spot on. It’s like the covers to the Girl Genius novels: they somehow read my mind and came up with exactly the kind of thing I want. I love it! You can hear it here on Rain Games' Twitter.

Steve Jackson Games tells us that they are getting close to launching their Kickstarter for Girl Genius GURPS, which is all done and ready to go and everything! I’ll post lots of links when I know more.

And that’s all the things I can think of to tell you about today. I’ll be back whenever there’s something new to talk about, or at the beginning of July, if nothing else.

Thanks, everyone!

BackerKit surveys should be out by the end of the weekend
almost 3 years ago – Thu, May 27, 2021 at 01:00:49 AM

Hello everyone!

Links to our pledge manager are going out this weekend, please watch for them in the inbox of the email address you used for the campaign.

As previously mentioned, shipping charges were not added to the pledge levels. Instead, weight-based shipping will be added and charged in BackerKit at checkout.

All backers will get a BackerKit link, which will give them access to the backer’s only prices on the exclusives on the BackerKit store.

If you should be getting something in the mail, we NEED you to follow the link and complete the pledge manager. This is how we know where to send your rewards.

If you backed at a level that gets no physical reward sent in the mail, you don’t need to complete the pledge manager.

However, this time, all of our backers are eligible for the Backer’s Only discounted prices on the exclusive medals, patches, and Envelopes of Madness. The BackerKit link is your invitation to take advantage of that. If you don’t want to, that’s fine, just delete the email and accept our apologies for bothering you!

Thank you all for your patience with me. This has not been the best of years.

So, that’s where we are. Things are finally moving along again. Watch for your surveys!

All the Girl Genius Sparks and Monsters book files are now corrected and have been sent to the new printer
over 3 years ago – Fri, Nov 27, 2020 at 03:38:47 PM

Hello everyone!

I’m sorry we haven’t posted an update lately. There wasn’t much to report, and I kept thinking that the book would be done and at the printer soon, and then I could post about that, and then things just kept happening to keep me from getting the book to the printer, and there was always some emergency I had to take care of, and, well, here we are.

I finally got the last of the corrected files to the printer last night. The printer who had been going to do the book went out of business, so we had to find a new one. We are now working with a printer recommended to us by our friends over at Fantagraphics Books. The volumes Fantagraphics makes are always top quality, so I have a lot of faith in them. I had to rework a bunch of files for the new guys, because they do things a little differently than our old printer. Then I had to do it again, because I had the wrong measurements, and so on. Things are all sorted out now, and we still hope to start shipping in January.

Also, this volume was riddled with typos, so I spent a lot of time chasing those down and fixing them. I hope I got them all, it’s like hunting mimmoths.

Now that the book is finally done, I can move on to getting the PDF out soon, so that’s nice.

The medals for this campaign are in the sample stage, I hope to see those soon.

As for everything else, well, we been in a weird place lately, where all kinds of great things are happening with Girl Genius. The problem is that they’re all happening at once, so there’s been a lot to do. Here’s some of what’s been going on:

We recently finalized the Girl Genius GURPS sourcebook with Steve Jackson Games, and Victor is currently going through all the old files to choose good illustrations to fit into the page designs. (Thank goodness I wasn’t the one designing that book too, I have enough to do. Also, the designer they got did a fantastic job.) I’ll so happy to finally get this great RPG book in my hands!

Rain Games has begun to work on the Girl Genius video game they Kickstarted last fall, and what I’ve seen looks really neat. They haven’t needed us for much yet, but we hope to be very involved in the process. You can thank these guys for the fact that I’ll be getting Buck Godot: zap gun for hire Gallimaufry finished up sometime in 2021, since I promised their backers a PDF of it. I feel like I never would have got to it without their extra push!

Also, the Magic the Gathering fans seem to have just noticed that we’re still alive, (we’d been hiding) so we wound up signing thousands of playmats from Original Magic Art’s Kickstarter, which surprised everyone by doing extremely well. That was pretty great.

We've also been shipping the last of the rewards for the Queens and Pirates Kickstarter. We're not done, but we're getting there.

So, now I’ve got the book to the printer and am set to tackle the rest of the BackerKit setup. After Thanksgiving, of course.

Right now, I have to go finish making pies. Happy Thanksgiving to all the USA types who celebrate! (Canadians, I hope yours was great too, back in October.)

Thank you all for your patience and concern, I am very grateful that you care, and that you read our work!

I’ll be back when there’s more news, and I hope to make it soon!
